Unweka Day Celebration

Unweka is the eldest of the five Principal Communities in Ikwo Noyo Clan. It comprises three autonomous communities, viz; Ekpelu Omaka-ejali, Eka-Awoke Omaka, Ekpa-omaka.

Unweka has three Traditional rulers;

1. HRH Eze Albert Alo Opefi, Omakaejali 11 of Ekpelu

2. HRH Eze Nwigboji Nwokwa, Omaka 11 of Ekpaomaka

3. HRH Eze Oliver Eze, Omaka 11 of Eke-Awoke

Ekpelu houses the home of Noyo, the Father of Ikwo known as "Ili Noyo".

The community is the custodian of Ikwo Culture and Tradition, hence, holds the right to perform cleansing rituals and spiritual consultation and atonement for persons, families, sub-clans and the entire Ikwo on violation of Ikwo cultural ethics and codes of conduct.

It is pertinent to note here that Ekpelu is always consulted upon noticing a perplexed abominable act for reasonable answers to be proffered on correcting the anomaly.

In the same vein, every traditional gathering in Ikwo where kolanut is normally presented as a symbol of reception, hospitality and acceptance or covenant incantations in settlement of dispute, traditional prayers must be performed by an Ekpelu man if present at such event or his representative. And in the absence of Ekpelu person, the kola can be passed to the next sub-clan in Unweka.

Unweka General Assembly in conjunction with the Traditional institution unanimously agreed to have Unweka Day, tagged A new normal in Unweka development trajectory. A day that would see Unweka of all stratas come together and celebrate as a people of common descent and at the same time, confer Chieftaincy Titles on some of her Sons, daughter and friends of the community.

The following persons received Chieftaincy Titles from the community on the event held on 30th November, 2024 at Edukwu Noyo, Ekpelu.
